The goal of the annual Career Pathway Symposium is to provide intensive professional development to AEL programs on the design and development of career advancement opportunities for adult learners across the state. Strands will address developing quality IET program models and expanding Intensive Services.
Sessions will be presented face-to-face only at the Omni Corpus Christi Hotel.
Hotel room block information will be provided upon completed registration for the symposium. The hotel room block will close on Friday, April 14, 2023.
Strands will provide PD for instructors, curriculum developers, career navigators, directors, and other staff involved in developing career pathway opportunities for adult learners. Attending the pre-conference and conference sessions will award a maximum of 14 hours of PD credit.
Pre-Conference: Corrections and Reentry focused session (More information coming soon!)
Strand 1: Integrated Education and Training
Using the IET Design Camp Toolkit, this strand will dive deeper into establishing a strategic process for IET services at the local level through hands-on activities on the four phases of IET development and implementation: 1) researching and assessing community needs 2) designing and planning 3) developing and implementing, and 4) evaluating success. Topics will include establishing clear program goals to address stakeholder needs, designing integrated services that meet WIOA requirements, building a contextualized curriculum, and creating an evaluation plan using a continuous improvement process to build on lessons learned.
Strand 2: Employer Engagement and Workplace Literacy
Engaging employers is critical to successful career pathway designs across all service models. This strand will focus on developing meaningful relationships with employers from collaborating with other stakeholders for employer access, outreach and expanding employer partnerships, developing the “elevator pitch” for those impromptu and structured opportunities, to how to assess the needs of incumbent workers and an employer to design a program that meets the needs of both.
Strand 3: Services to Internationally Trained Professionals (ELLs)
Using the “Supporting Skilled Immigrants Toolkit,” and state subject matter expertise, this strand will provide an overview of the specialized needs of this population including in-depth intake practices, developing strategic community partnerships, serving ITPs in IET models, building on social capital in the classroom and with employers, navigating the U.S. workforce system, leveraging assets of ITPs in multi-level classes, and overall promising practices in program design.
Each strand will enable participants to leave with resources and tools to expand their program models through research-based models that demonstrate effective practices.
