Ready to take the next step in your education and career? You can earn your Texas High School Equivalency (HSE) certificate, and we can help cover the cost with a free HSE voucher for eligible Texans.

In Texas, the GED test is the only State Board of Education approved exam for earning your HSE. When you pass, you’ll receive your State of Texas Certificate of High School Equivalency (TxCHSE), proof that you’ve achieved a major milestone toward your goals.

The GED test includes four subjects: Math, Science, Social Studies, and Language Arts.

Who Qualifies for an HSE Voucher?

You may be eligible if you:

• Live in Texas
• Are 21 years or older
• Don’t already have a high school diploma or equivalent
• Have a valid, government-issued photo ID (such as a Texas driver’s license, passport, or military ID)
• Can show proof of Texas residency (for example, a utility bill or bank statement with your Texas address)
• Have been assessed as “test ready” by an approved Adult Education and Literacy (AEL) provider or by taking the GED Ready Practice Test

Who Can Apply?

Vouchers are available for:

• Current AEL participants enrolled in Adult Education and Literacy programs
• Former AEL participants who have attended within the last 12 months
• Non-AEL participants who meet eligibility requirements

Not Enrolled in an AEL Program? No Problem!

You can still request a voucher by following these simple steps:

1. Complete the HSE Voucher Program Interest Form
2. Coordinator Review: The Region 6 HSE Voucher Coordinator will review your submission.
3. Assessment or Referral (if needed): If you haven’t been assessed yet, we’ll connect you with a local AEL provider. Once you’re test-ready, you’ll move forward with the process.
