Region 6 Education Service Center provides several certification programs for individuals as well as certification services for school districts.


ESC6 no longer offers the Teacher Preparation and Certification Program (TPCP).  Please email or call Jada Mullins, jmullins@esc6.net, 936.435.8360 for any guidance or questions.

  • In accordance with Texas Administrative Code (19 TAC §228.20(h)), effective October 15, 2020, all Educator Preparation Programs must have a published exit policy for the dismissal of candidates. Region 6’s Exit Policy may be found here.

  • If you believe you have a complaint against a Region 6 educator preparation program, please contact the Coordinator of Educator Quality and Development. Complaints will be heard and resolved informally, if possible.

    If the complaint is not resolved at the program level, you may file a formal complaint with Region 6 Education Service Center. Complaints at this level must follow Region 6 policy requirements.

    If a complaint is not resolved at the Region 6 Education Service Center, you may file a complaint with the Texas Education Agency by clicking here (TEA complaint website).

  • The 2021-2022 teacher shortage areas for Texas are:

    • Bilingual/English as a Second Language - Elementary and Secondary Levels
    • Special Education - Elementary and Secondary Levels
    • Career and Technical Education - Secondary Levels
    • Technology Applications and Computer Science - Elementary and Secondary Levels
    • Mathematics - Secondary Levels

    U.S. Department of Education - Teacher Shortage Areas Nationwide 1990-present. 

    The 2022-2023 teacher shortage areas have been approved by the US Department of Education. The approved shortage areas for 2022-2023 are as follows:

    • Bilingual/English as a Second Language – Elementary and Secondary Levels
    • Special Education – Elementary and Secondary Levels
    • Career and Technical Education - Secondary Level
    • Technology Applications and Computer Science – Elementary and Secondary Levels
    • English Language Arts and Reading – Elementary and Secondary Levels
    • Mathematics - Secondary Level
    • Science – Secondary Level

    Student Loan Forgiveness information

  • Candidates who are current military service members or military veteran candidates may receive credit towards the required training or education hours for Educator Preparation Program (EPP) completion provided that the military service, training, or education is directly related to the certificate being sought.

    To request a review for transfer of military service, training, or education hours, please submit a formal request to jmullins@esc6.net. Your request should include your certification class (Principal or Superintendent) and documentation of the service, training, or education that you would like considered. Some examples of acceptable documentation include course descriptions, certificates of completion, etc. Your request will be reviewed by the program committee. A decision will be provided to you in writing.

  • Non-Military. ESC Region 6 Educator Preparation Program has developed and implemented specific criteria and procedures that allow: Candidates who are not military service members or military veterans to substitute prior or ongoing service, training, or education, provided that the experience, education, or training is not also counted as part of the internship, clinical teaching, or practicum requirements, was provided by an approved EPP or an accredited institution of higher education within the past five years and is directly related to the certificate being sought.

    To request a review for transfer of training or education hours, please submit a formal request to jmullins@esc6.net.
