About Betty the Safety Bus

The Region 6 School Bus Safety Team is pleased to offer an engaging and educational School Bus Safety Program featuring our mini robot, “Betty the Bus.” This interactive presentation is designed to teach students essential school bus safety skills in a fun and memorable way.

Depending on the needs of your district, the program can be conducted in either an assembly or classroom setting. The presentation covers key safety topics, including:

- Danger Zones around the school bus

- Proper loading and unloading procedures

- Rules and expectations while riding the school bus

- The meaning of the bus’s lights and stop-arm signals

Our presenters actively engage students through interactive instruction and demonstrations. “Betty the Bus” helps teach the meaning of the lights and stop-arm by demonstrating them herself. Students are also invited to participate in hands-on demonstrations using a wooden school bus replica to show proper loading, unloading, and awareness of the Danger Zones. A Danger Zone safety poster is also reviewed with the group.

One presenter “drives the bus” to demonstrate the hand signals their own drivers will use when loading and unloading, while others provide verbal explanations. “Betty” also reinforces the importance of following bus rules to ensure everyone’s safety.

At the end of the presentation, the team leads a review session, inviting students to answer questions that reinforce what they’ve learned about bus safety.

We would be delighted to bring Betty the Bus to your district to help promote student safety and awareness. Please let us know your preferred format and possible dates so we can coordinate accordingly.

Thank you for your continued commitment to keeping students safe.
